Advent Appeal – Lisburn Foodbank
This year the Parish Pastoral Council proposes that we make a contribution to those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. The organisation to which we will be contributing is Lisburn Foodbank, a project founded by local churches and community groups working together to meet the needs of those in our locality who find themselves short of the essentials for themselves and their children. As we know, the number of people in this situation has been increasing year on year, especially among people who are working but not earning a living wage. This is one of the great injustices of our time.
The Foodbank has a number of churches supporting them by collecting specific items so that they can make varied hampers for people in need coming up to Christmas. The specific items we have been asked to donate are bottles of Shloer and boxes of Pringles. They are grateful for other donations as well but ask for specific items so the hamper packing process can be much more efficient.
These items will be taken up at all Masses starting on 16th/17th November, 23rd/24th November and the final collection on 30th/1st December. A shopping trolley has been placed at both entrances to the church to facilitate collection of the items.
There will also be an option to donate cash if you wish.
Derriaghy parishioners have been exceptionally generous in all the appeals we have run so far and we thank you in advance for your support of this Advent Appeal.
