The response to our Advent Appeal for the Welcome Organisation exceeded all expectations. The generosity of our parishioners has long been recognised, but on this occasion it was exceptional.
Huge thanks to everyone who donated money (in excess of £2300 was raised in financial donations alone.) Additionally, we had a van full of donations including; groceries, clothes, toiletries, towels, bags and sleeping bags, all of which was delivered to the Welcome Organisation after the reception in the Parish Hall. Thank you to all those who donated and to those who loaded and unloaded the van.
To everyone who came to the reception after the 12 o’clock Mass, thank you. I’m sure you will agree that it was a beautiful reception. Many thanks to all those who were involved in the preparations. The hall looked beautiful and the biscuits, mince pies, cakes and other nibbles tasted beautiful.
Thanks also to Sandra Moore from the Welcome Organisation who spoke after the 6.30pm vigil Mass and Kieran Hughes, who spoke after both the 10am and the 12pm Mass. Their moving testimonies of the work that is done by both staff and volunteers in the Welcome Organisation, was humbling. In her address on Saturday evening, Sandra drew our attention to the first reading, Isaiah 61:1-2, 10-11, in particular to the lines,
“He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken.”
This is what the Welcome Organisation is doing on a continuous basis and on this Gaudete Sunday, our parish can Rejoice that we have been able to support them in that vital work.
